The history of the English Mastiff

When you hear the word "Great Dane" there is no doubt the English mastiff, the first in the mind. These large dogs have a fearsome appearance, standing up to 30 "high on the shoulder and have an attitude reminiscent of a pit bull. Weighing in each place between 140-230 pounds, this is certainly a race that demands respect.

Named after the Anglo-Saxon word for "strong", the English Mastiff certainly lives up to its name. While they once were largely relegated to use in baiting with blood and other sports (now, thank God forbidden) for the entertainment of the British crown, because they have found another line of work as watchdogs, and even pets.

The race has long been in the U.S. also because of the imported some time ago.That 's true pets. Their appearance and fear checkered history aside, the English Mastiff is indeed a great family dog.

These dogs, despite their cruel descent, is really affectionate and loving in nature. However, if they are provoked by an intruder can and will attack if necessary. In fact, they are one of the top ten watchdogs. They are perfect dogs with children. Very good natured and have great temperament. They are very relaxed and calm.

The English Mastiff like all big dog definitely needs space to walk and exercise. You can live comfortably in your home, you just have to run the room every day. If they are to good nutrition and lots of movement, they will eventually live to around 9 to 11

English mastiffs have a few minor health problems common constitutional traditions of the race, including a tendency to increasingly overweight and hip dysplasia. This aside, they are a great dog all around. Litter, lovingly and gently to you and your family, they can pull double duty as a guard animal. Before buying a Mastiff, learn as much as possible about the breeders. Make sure that they have a real board and mastiff fan.

In addition to the above minor medical issues, there is another disadvantage that an English mastiff: You do slobber, this is more a concern to some than to others. Overall, they make an excellent family dog for each home. All the good qualities of race has're sure that you have a happier dog owners.
